THE END OF FEAR AND LOATHING

YES, I need to remind myself just how simple that mission is! How could I have forgotten, again? But I did. It's so easy to get swallowed up in someone else's movie....
In the past few months I've allowed myself to get detoured, into the realm of Politics. For years I've been saying, There is no political solution to anything; the only remedy for the nightmarish reality we have created for ourselves is through a quantum jump in consciousness, a quantum jump toward Self-realization! But lately I seem to have forgotten that. For the first time in years, I've been living in a house with television ... and I've become a cable-news junkie.
I've been sitting here staring into the eye of the Beast -- entranced by the hypnotic spell of that electronic cobra, letting its fangs nuzzle right up against me ("Don't worry, I won't bite you....") -- and suddenly, now, coming to my senses enough to notice that the tips of those fangs have indeed gotten under my skin (so gently, I didn't even feel it happen!) ... and the sleepy-time poison is beginning to crawl through my unsuspecting veins....
Those dear little fangs -- like hypodermic needles -- and their poison lulling me into diversionary dreams of swine flu vaccines, and the Health Care battle, and a daily cascade of ever-more absurd and tyrannical crimes perpetrated by the government.... And then suddenly I woke up.

I looked at the TV one day, and there was Our President, doing his usual gig, Preaching To The Choir -- this time in some town in Wisconsin. He was announcing another new Government Give-away program. Having already saved us from the worst financial disaster since The Great Depression, and having further "stimulated" The Economy with hundreds of billions of dollars (of non-existent money, 85% of which has seemingly disappeared, unspent and unaccounted-for), and having remedied "Health Care" with a 2,000-page legislative proposal (assembled by his lobbyist cronies and other minions; 2,000 pages of unreadable and fishy-smelling Orwellian gibberish) ... he was now announcing a Government Give-away program for Education. The government would now be giving multi-billions of dollars to individual states, to fix their Education problems.
Gee, it seems there's nothing that can't be fixed by just pouring enough money on it (those printing presses at the Treasury Department must be running 24/7)! But, really, none of these things are about fixing anything ... except elections. The President and his cronies are simply buying votes. (As they said in the last days of the old Roman Empire, Give the people bread and circuses, and they will be your slaves forever!) What I don't understand is how the people can avoid seeing that the government must first take the money away from them in order to have money to give them!

Anyway ... I saw the President's face, I heard his voice. The malarkey was rolling off his lips faster than water over Niagara Falls! And the thought that came to me was just how totally disconnected this guy is from Reality! In a flash of revelation, I saw him as a desperate schmuck who is so far "in over his head" that the only way he can even continue functioning from day to day is by spinning this web of fantasy, repeating the phony-baloney so many times and so passionately that he comes to believe it himself...
And then I thought: Well, it doesn't matter, he's just a puppet anyway! There are so many layers of string-pullers above him -- 47 levels of secrecy above the President, they say -- and all he's doing is reading the script that is given to him. That's what he's good at, and that's what he's doing. Of course!
And then I realized that I was being an even bigger schmuck, by letting myself be hypnotized and derailed by all this. Letting myself be diverted -- by the bread and circuses and the selling of fear and anger, on TV every day -- from the only thing that matters, which is Self-realization!
If I've learned one single thing in life that's important, it is: not to let others control my thoughts and feelings. My thoughts and feelings are the only things I can really control myself -- and they determine the course of my life! Each of us is making a movie here -- our lives are literally made of photons of light, projected on the screen of Being -- and our thoughts determine what the camera records and what the projector projects.
There are people -- those 47 levels of puppet-masters above the President, for instance -- who get a kick out of trying to dictate what everyone else's movie will be. They do this by infecting our thoughts, planting seeds of fear, hatred, greed, etc. Have you noticed how many people are pushing Fear these days? Fear of almost everything, 24/7. They are truly energy-vampires, feeding off the vibrations of Fear that they create in others. They perpetuate and grow the Fear -- very skilfully! -- by starting wars and famines and pandemics. They loan money and sell weapons to all sides in the wars (this is what they call a win-win situation), then they rebuild (for a hefty fee) what has been destroyed. They feed and shelter the victims of famine (again, for a price) -- or maybe they just let them die, and take their land. With the pandemics, in the best-case scenario, they merely come to the rescue with the antidote (again, making lots of money). Worst-case scenario -- let's not even go there....

BUT ... here's the key to the whole thing: Each of us is in charge of our own movie. The course of our life is determined by our thoughts and feelings -- which no one else can control, unless we let them. All roads lead to Self-realization ... and there are a zillion possible roads, and we pretty much get to create the one we like. But we can only create the one we like if we know how to create it. We create in our life the kinds of things that we think of over and over; that we observe or envision over and over; that we FEEL over and over.
So, here's the key to making a happy movie for yourself: Think and envision and feel ONLY things that bring you happiness, peace, and gratitude. Oh, yes, there will be times when you can't avoid thoughts or feelings or visions of things you don't like -- but you don't have to dwell on those. Let them go, as fast as you can; replace them with happier ones.

Whatever you think of, you will create; so keep your thoughts on the good stuff, not on the bad stuff! It's that simple. And remember, no one has the right or the power to hijack your thoughts -- unless you let them do it.
Bye-bye, Mr. President. Bye-bye, puppet-masters ... politicians ... flus and vaccinations ... fear and greed and hatred.... You're out of my movie, you didn't pass the screen test. : ^ )
